A Thank You is in Order
“Humility must always be the portion of any man who receives acclaim earned in the blood of his followers and the sacrifices of his friends.”
Dwight D. Eisenhower
34th president of US 1953-1961 (1890 - 1969)
No, no blood was shed last night; but the above quote, one of my favorites, seems highly appropriate this morning.
Thank you all, very, very much for your votes and support.
I am but a common, typical American, and the confidence that 32,000 Missourians showed in me yesterday touches me deeply, and I do not take the charge I have been given lightly.
Yesterday began the process for the citizens of Missouri’s 4th district to take their government back from career politicians. We have a Congress today that is irrelevant, and so arrogant that today most of them are “on vacation” while families struggle and businesses close.
I so look forward to the coming months of visiting with my neighbors and discussing the great challenges we face.
My head is full of thoughts today about our “Do Nothing” legislators and their failure to act on energy issues; to fully support the missions of our fine troops around the world, and so many other things; but I know that there will be time to discuss and debate these things in the coming months.
I urge you to contact the office of your current congressman, Ike Skelton, to encourage him to come home and meet me, and you publicly, to discuss his record and the issues, so that the people may make an informed decision on which direction the congress, and country, should now go. Democrats often talk about "healthy debate"; It is time we had some of that in Missouri's 4th District.
Again, my sincere thanks.
